The Ekiti State Police Command has disclosed that it has increased the presence of security operatives at key government offices in the state to prevent potential invasions by Yoruba secessionist groups.
Ekiti News reports that this move comes in the wake of an incident where individuals claiming to be Yoruba nation agitators attempted to take over the premises of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Saturday before being subdued by security forces.
In response, security vans were observed patrolling major streets within Ado Ekiti metropolis, with personnel from the Police, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence stationed at strategic locations in the state capital.
Security vehicles were positioned at the entrances of the Governor’s Office, Ekiti State House of Assembly, and the Government House.
Brigadier-General Ebenezer Ogundana, the Special Adviser to Governor Biodun Oyebanji on Security Matters, stated that the heightened security measures were prompted by the recent incident in Oyo State. He emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing any breach of peace in Ekiti State.
Ogundana remarked, “We believe what happened in Oyo State can happen in other Southwest states. So, immediately we heard of the incident yesterday (Saturday), we put all security agencies on alert so that we are not surprised the same way Oyo state was surprised.”
He assured that comprehensive measures had been put in place to prevent a similar occurrence in Ekiti State, evident from the increased presence of combined security agencies patrolling the state capital and guarding government facilities.
In a similar vein, the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, affirmed that all security agencies in the state have been briefed on the situation.
He expressed confidence that such an event would not occur in Ekiti State.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the security and well-being of its citizens, urging everyone to conduct themselves within legal boundaries and without fear.
The Commissioner assured the people of Ekiti that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is dedicated to serving them and protecting their rights and interests.
