The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation following an assault allegedly carried out by armed hoodlums believed to have crossed over from a neighboring town in Kwara State. The incident targeted the secretariat of Ilejemeje Local Government Area and residents of Eda Oniyo, the council headquarters.

Ekiti News had reported that tension gripped Eda Oniyo on Tuesday as residents endured assaults and property damage inflicted by hoodlums from the nearby community.

Reports indicate that the attackers beat up locals, destroyed vehicles, set motorcycles ablaze, and wreaked havoc at the Ilejemeje Local Government Secretariat during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The police have intensified efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, informed reporters that the police had sent officers to the area and the situation is now under control.

Abutu stated, “Upon learning of the attack, we swiftly dispatched our team to the scene. The situation has been resolved, and calm has been restored.

“Investigation into the incident has commenced as directed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeniran Akinwale, to fish out the perpetrators.”
