Ekiti News reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria through its Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed a warehouse in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, for allegedly selling expired and deceptively labelled goods with fake barcodes.
This was revealed in a statement on FCCPC official X handle.
The Commission said its operatives busted the warehouse on Thursday, following intelligence reports.
According to FCCPC, the action is to protect consumers in Ado-Ekiti, noting that “following intelligence reports, our operatives raided a warehouse suspected of selling harmful products, including vegetable oils, cereals, and other fast-moving consumer goods.”
During the raid, the agency found evidence of “expired goods still on the shelves, deceptive labels on products, fake barcodes, repackaged, potentially unsafe products.”
“The warehouse is now sealed, and the owners along with a supplier are being investigated. Appropriate enforcement actions will follow,” it added.
