The January edition of the Ekiti State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 7:00 to 10:00 in the morning, Ekiti News reports.
In a statement from the office of the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Chief (Mrs) Tosin Aluko Ajisafe, all government employees are encouraged to tidy up their offices and surroundings by the end of the working day on Friday, January 26, 2024.
The theme for the upcoming environmental sanitization exercise this month is “Clean Environment Prolongs Life, Make Sanitation A Habit.”
In the released statement, Mrs. Aluko emphasized the importance of tidying up surroundings, noting that there would be restrictions on vehicular and human movement throughout the State during the exercise. Exceptions include individuals on official responsibilities, those performing essential duties and services, and students engaged in examinations.
In addition, the release advised residents and business owners to properly dispose their wastes and clear the drainage systems in front of their structures.
The Commissioner also cautioned market men and women to take advantage of the occasion to clean their stores, booths and
ensure proper disposal of refuse.
Mrs. Aluko reminded shops and business owners that all business premises
remain closed till 10am.
She stressed that Environmental Health Officers from the State and Local Government, NGO’s and Security agencies would be present to oversee and ensure compliance across the State while the exercise lasts.
The Commissioner warned against violation of the Environmental
Sanitation laws as mobile courts would be operational throughout the State for the prosecution of violators.
Mrs. Aluko urged the residents to maintain a clean and tidy environment during this dry season.
