The government of Ekiti State has approved a total sum of N546,901,000.00 for the payment of West African Examination Council/Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC/SSCE) fees and administrative expenses for all 16,269 SS3 students in public secondary schools across the state who are registered to sit for the examination in 2024.
Ekiti News reports that the State commissioner for education, Dr Bimpe Aderiye disclosed this in a statement on Monday, in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Aderiye clarified that no public secondary school in the state has been authorized to collect any WAEC registration fees.
The Commissioner cautioned that it would be considered an act of sabotage if officials from any public school in the state were to request any fees related to the examination. She further advised parents and guardians against paying any unauthorized fees, emphasizing that such actions undermine the government’s policies and hinder efforts to enhance the socioeconomic well-being of the populace.
Dr. Aderiye urged all stakeholders to report any requests for unauthorized fees related to the 2024 examinations to her office, or to the offices of the Permanent Secretaries of Education or the Teaching Service Commission.
She reaffirmed the State Government’s dedication to enhancing the education sector and assured that every effort would be made to attain the set objectives.
