Ekiti News reports that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that the company did not authorize the two-month power outage in Ekiti and Ondo states, contrary to the report by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

In a statement on its official account, TCN clarified that no request for a power outage was approved.

Recall that BEDC announced that Ekiti and Ondo states would experience daily 9-hour power outages from July 1 to August 31. This was attributed to critical infrastructure maintenance on the Osogbo/Akure – Ado – Ekiti 132kV line by TCN.

TCN, in a response signed by its General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on Monday, stated that it has been made aware of BEDC’s publication regarding a planned outage on the Osogbo-Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kV line for the installation of OPGW starting from July 1, 2024.

“The publication by the BEDC regarding a proposed outage on Osogbo-Akure-Ado-Ekiti 132kV line for the purpose of installing OPGW commencing on 1st July, 2024 has been brought to the notice of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

“TCN Management hereby informs the general public that no such outage request has been approved.” The statement reads.
