The National President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade M. H. Ibrahim, has paid glowing tribute to Western Zonal Chairman and National Vice Chairman, Comrade (Dr) Abdussobour Olayiwola Sallaam, describing him as a rare gem and a symbol of consistent leadership in the union.
Speaking during an event organised by SSANU Western Zone to honour Dr Sallaam on his birthday, the National President said the celebrant represents the best ideals of the union and remains a major asset to SSANU at large.
“Dr Sallaam is a bridge between the old and the new. He has the wisdom of experience and the energy of youth. He has demonstrated over time that leadership is not about position but about service, vision, and commitment to a cause,” Comrade Ibrahim stated.
He praised the Western Zone for organising the celebration, calling the zone a “pacesetter” that continues to raise standards in unionism across Nigerian universities.
According to him, Dr Sallaam has shown uncommon maturity, intellectual depth, and the ability to engage meaningfully with people from all walks of life.
“He is a cosmopolitan leader who knows how to work with people of different personalities. His maturity and knowledge span every sector. He is not only intelligent but also forward-thinking,” he said.
Comrade Ibrahim noted that the celebrant’s long-standing service and leadership roles in SSANU are the result of years of sacrifice, resilience, and consistent dedication to the struggle for improved welfare of staff in universities.
“Dr Sallaam is not just committed to the struggle; he embodies it. His journey is a testament to what is possible when one stays true to principles and has a clear focus,” the President added.
He also used the occasion to remind members that birthdays should go beyond mere celebration. “It is a time for sober reflection. A time to think about how we have impacted humanity and how we can do better. Dr Sallaam is an example of how birthdays can be a point of recommitment to service,” he said.
The President concluded by calling on all SSANU members to continue supporting the national leadership and to emulate the dedication and selflessness that Dr Sallaam represents.
