Ekiti News reports that two young men were mistakenly shot dead by a policeman in Ekiti State.
According to Witnesses, the incident occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday in the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti.
Reports indicate that an accident had taken place in the area, leading to some angry youths trying to mob the driver and set the vehicle on fire.
Members of the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were chasing young men suspected to be internet fraudsters, often referred to as “yahoo boys.” The suspects were driving a Lexus RX car.
Reports indicate that during their attempt to escape, the young men collided with two motorcycle riders.
Further accounts reveal that when some angry youths tried to help the suspects resist arrest by mobbing the police, one officer fired shots that fatally injured two boys.
The victims were rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital but died there. Their bodies have been deposited in the morgue.
