Operatives of Ekiti State Police Command have arrested three more suspects connected to recent killings in the state.
Ekiti News reports that the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Sunday Abutu, announced in a statement in Ado Ekiti that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in Ekiti State.
He specifically mentioned that these efforts are aimed at cultists who have recently attacked innocent people in Ado-Ekiti, causing widespread fear.
DSP Abutu added that, based on reliable information, the police apprehended one of the gang members involved in the recent killing of four people in Ado-Ekiti.
The suspect, Olanipekun Lateef, also known as Lati Olorifunfun, was arrested in Ode-Ekiti. During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the Eiye secret cult and admitted his involvement in many of the recent fatal attacks in Ado-Ekiti.
According to Lateef, the incident was a retaliatory attack against members of the Black Axe ‘AIYE’ confraternity, who had killed an Eiye member on May 27, 2024, in Ado-Ekiti.
DSP Abutu added that the suspect led the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to a woman named Agbeniyi Bunmi, who allegedly kept the two guns used in the cult operations. She was arrested and confessed to having handed over the guns to the Eiye secret cult’s armourer, Ademola Adejugbe, also known as Oba, who was then tracked down and arrested.
A search of Adejugbe’s premises revealed a cut-to-small-size locally made single-barrel gun and an English-made double-barrel gun, both concealed inside a sack. These were recovered by the police.
The police spokesperson stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend more fleeing members of the gang.
