…As Afuye Empowers 120 Elderly, Party Leaders in Ikere
The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, has said the people-focused programmes of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration have significantly reduced poverty in the state.
Mrs. Afuye made this known on Tuesday while distributing monthly cash stipends and clothing materials to 120 elderly people and party leaders across the 11 wards in Ikere Local Government Area.
Speaking through her Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Victor Adeniyi, the Deputy Governor noted that the drop in Ekiti’s poverty index didn’t happen by chance but was a result of deliberate efforts to prioritise the welfare of the masses.
According to a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Olakiitan Victor Ogunje, Mrs. Afuye said she launched the monthly support programme as her personal way of giving back and easing the burden of the less privileged in her community.
She described poverty as one of Nigeria’s most pressing crises and praised Governor Oyebanji for making social welfare and youth empowerment top priorities of his administration.
“Governor Oyebanji is committed to the principle of being our brother’s keeper. His administration is determined to take the ‘shared prosperity’ agenda to greater heights,” she said.
She added that creating jobs for the youth, empowering widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups, both in the civil service and informal sector, remains central to the governor’s policy direction.
Mrs. Afuye reaffirmed her personal commitment to supporting the people of Ikere and the state at large by continuously responding to their needs and ensuring they enjoy the dividends of democracy.
