…Commissions mammogram machine at EKSUTH
To enhance early detection and treatment of cancer in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has commissioned a state-of-the-art mammogram machine at the Adunni Olayinka Women Diagnostic Centre, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti.
Ekiti News reports that the Governor while speaking just before the commissioning of the mammogram machine by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa on Thursday, emphasized the significance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer, which the machine is set to facilitate.
Governor Oyebanji underscored the machine’s role as a critical tool in the timely diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
He encouraged women to utilize the machine for cancer screening, emphasizing its role in promoting healthier lives and reducing the prevalence of breast cancer in the state.
Governor Oyebanji reiterated his administration’s commitment to healthcare improvement and announced ongoing comprehensive renovations at 11 general hospitals across the state.
He said the renovations of 11 general hospitals is aimed at further enhancing medical facilities and providing quality healthcare to all citizens.
The Governor, underscoring his administration’s dedication to providing access to top-tier medical technology, emphasized the importance of women across the state utilizing the facility for regular screening. He highlighted that early detection significantly enhances the likelihood of successful treatment.
He said, “Whatever God has revealed, is not supposed to kill anybody again. The machines here are designed to help us, if we can detect what is wrong early, the doctors will know what to prescribe but if we keep saying that undiagnosed diseases cannot kill, it is dangerous, so I am just begging you, the Iyalajes because you are very close to our people at home, tell them to come and check their body.
“As we are here, we have also awarded contracts for the renovation of 11 general hospitals across the state, we are going to renovate them, and equip them.”
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, praised Governor Oyebanji for his deep concern for the welfare of the state’s citizens.
The Minister noted that Governor Oyebanji was the first governor to contact him after he assumed office as Minister of State for Health, seeking support for the people of Ekiti.
He highlighted the Governor’s significant efforts in advancing the healthcare sector in the state, aligning with the determination of President Tinubu’s federal government to provide outstanding healthcare facilities for all Nigerians.
Highlighting that breast cancer ranks among the most prevalent cancers affecting women according to national statistics, the Minister urged women across the state to utilize the mammogram machine for early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
He emphasized that his presence, alongside the Governor, the First Lady Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, and other top government officials at the commissioning, was to raise awareness about cancer treatment and the importance of regular check-ups.
