The Executive Chairman of Emure Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Hon. (Prince) Adedayo Oluwatosin, has signed five important bills into bye-laws, including prohibiting gender-based violence (GBV).
The signing ceremony, which held on Monday, 4th August 2025, at the Chairman’s Office, Council Secretariat in Emure-Ekiti, was witnessed by lawmakers, executive members, and representatives of civil society organisations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman described the bills as essential to the safety and development of Emure people.
He commended the legislative council for their foresight and urged them to continue making people-centred laws.
Hon. Oluwatosin listed the signed bye-laws to include: Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law, Prohibition of Vehicular Movement During Market Hours, Monday Market Relocation to Obada Market, Protection of Female Children Against Sexual Harassment and Regulation of Land Sales, Allocation and Demarcation in the council.
In his remarks, Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Bolaji Olatunji, said the GBV and child protection laws will greatly improve the wellbeing of women and children in the community.
Hon. Olatunji stated that with the new bye-laws in place, it is now an offence for any resident to violate their provisions. He urged individuals and groups to obtain copies of the laws for proper understanding and to take note of the guidelines in their dealings with the local government.

Adefemi Feyisayo( Deputy Majority Leader), Hon. Adelere Tunde( Deputy Chief Whip), Hon. Abegunde Dare, Hon. Bogunde Ayo, Hon. Ogunrinde Sunday, Mr Osanyintuyi Ayo, Legislative Liaison Officer and Mrs Olorunda Oluwadamilola representative of GBV Initiative, a Gender based advocate NGO.
