Ekiti News reports that Prof. Femi Akinwumi, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has emphasized the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to effective data collection in schools.
The SUBEB Chairman made this assertion in Ado-Ekiti while receiving the official instrument for upgrading school basic data for the 2023/24 academic year from the Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics of the Board.
Prof. Akinwumi highlighted the importance of up-to-date records, including the current duty posts of teachers and reliable enrollment figures of pupils, for proper planning, teacher distribution, infrastructure provision, and instructional material distribution in schools.
He noted that data upgrading under the Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) Programme would enhance the performance of teachers and pupils, as government can adequately address their needs based on gathered information about age, gender, classes, and streams.
Commending the efforts of the Board’s Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Mr. Felix Ogunmodede, and the staff, particularly at the Education Management Information System (EMIS) center, Prof. Akinwumi praised the well-designed instrument aimed at easing the collection of necessary information from all schools.
He urged officers to execute the assignment diligently and promptly, highlighting Governor Oyebanji’s zero tolerance for project delays. The instrument format includes columns for LGEA, school, school location, pupil enrollment by classes, gender, and age, as well as teacher data such as gender, age, and educational qualifications.
The event was attended by members of the SUBEB Board and Management, including Dr. Olufunke Fajobi, Barrister Kayode Adeoye, Permanent Secretary Mr. Afolabi Adebiyi, and Directors, among others.
