Alaba Lamidi, a 32-year-old man, has been arraigned before an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court by the Ekiti State Police Command on allegations of stealing a phone valued at N100,000.

Yomi Osuolale, the police prosecutor, informed the court on Wednesday that the defendant purportedly “stole a Tecno POP 2 phone valued at N100,000 belonging to one Garba Umar.”

The Police Prosecutor alleged that the defendant committed the offence sometime in December 2023 at about 12 pm at the Atikankan Area in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

“The offence contravened and is punishable by Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021,” he stated.

Osuolale, however, requested the court to adjourn the case to allow him time to review the file and gather his witnesses.

Mrs. Adunni Olanipekun, the defendant’s counsel, appealed to the court to grant bail to the defendant.

Olanipekun assured the court that the defendant would not evade bail and pledged to present a credible surety for his release.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant’s bail in the amount of N20,000, along with one surety of equal value, and adjourned the case for hearing on March 21.
