Ekiti News reports that the Executive Chairman of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. ‘Dele Omoleye has donated tools for the farmers.
The Council boss stated that the empowerment programme is to commemorate his 100 days in office and to encourage farmers in the council.
Speaking during the program on Friday in Ido-Ekiti, the chairman, who identified himself as a farmer, encouraged the beneficiaries to view farming as a hobby.
He stressed that he cultivated hectares of land within the local government and planted maize and cassava, noting the cassava and the maize would be sold in Ido/Osi markets when harvested.
The chairman encouraged the people of the local government to develop interest in farming to reduce hunger.
“Recently, I advised our youths that instead of looking for a quick way of making money or waiting for white collar jobs, they should develop interest in agriculture and start making good earnings.
“Our lands are good to grow any type of crop without using fertilizer.
The time to stop waiting for notherners to supply us foods is now,” Omoleye said.
In his remarks, Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Folorunso Olabode, commended the chairman for supplying necessary for the farmers in the local government.
The commissioner, who also said Ekiti land needs no fertilizer, urged the beneficiaries to use the tools properly.
He noted that Governor ‘Biodun Oyebanji is a man that believes in farming, adding that the governor would use the power at his disposal to ensure Ekiti is producing foods for the people.
Also speaking, the Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, Oba Ayorinde Faboro, advised everybody at the gathering to see farming as panacea to food crisis in Nigeria.
The monarch told the beneficiaries not to sell the tools given by the chairman.
Each ward in the council got twenty five items
The items distributed included spraying pump, rainboot, cutlasses, herbicide and cash.
