The government of Ekiti State has granted approval for the formation of a Committee of Inquiry to investigate matters pertaining to the succession of Obaship in Iworoko Ekiti.
Ekiti News reports that the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti, recalled that the succession struggle for throne of Alaworoko of Iworoko Ekiti followed the demise of Oba Michael Olufemi Aladejana on 16th of January, 2019.
The Commissioner recalled that the late former Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi forwarded the contentious issues to the Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government Traditional Council, the home Local Government of the Iworoko community for inquiry and recommendations.
This initiative was prompted by the numerous petitions and counter-petitions received on the issue.
Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun further stated that the Local Government Traditional Council carried out a thorough investigation and consultation, presenting a comprehensive report to aid the State Government in resolving the family disputes related to the Obaship tussle. However, an Ekiti State High Court invalidated the report after it was contested by one of the conflicting parties. The challenge argued that only the Executive Council, and not the Deputy Governor, could constitute such an Inquiry Committee.
The Commissioner assured that the Government remains impartial and committed to entrenching peace and development in all communities in the State.
He therefore urged all stakeholders in the imbroglio to support efforts of Government at engraining peace and resolving the succession issue.
