Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transforming Ekiti State into a premier tourism destination, recognising its potential to generate wealth and create jobs.
Governor Oyebanji in a meeting with United Nations Tourism officials, emphasised that the state’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions could significantly boost economic diversification.
Ekiti News reports that the Governor expressed his gratitude for the partnership with the United Nations and the Federal Government to develop a comprehensive tourism master plan aimed at systematically developing Ekiti’s tourism assets.
He asserted that the success of the tourism sector would be instrumental in driving the state’s economic growth and improving the well-being of its citizens.
The Deputy Director of the United Nations Tourism Technical Corporation, Mr. Marcel Leijzer praised Governor Oyebanji’s initiatives, describing them as exemplary.
Mr. Leijzer highlighted the importance of strategic planning, community engagement, and environmental conservation in achieving sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
The UN delegation, which also included officials from the Federal Ministry of Tourism and Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development, spent three days touring various sites across the state.
Ambassador Wale Ojo Lanre, the Director-General of Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism, expressed his eagerness for the implementation of the tourism master plan and collaboration with institutions, such as the UN, to transform Ekiti State into a major tourism attraction centre in Nigeria.
