The Office of Community Communications has convened an emergency meeting with the executives of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria, also known as “POS Operators,” Ekiti State chapter, in response to the recent attacks on POS operators in the state.
Ekiti News reports that the meeting, called at the instance of Governor Biodun Oyebanji was attended by key officials including Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters ; Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana(rtd),Director General Office of Community Communications; Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho; Chief Security Officer of the Governor ; CSP Ayodele Akinlua ,DG Homeland Intelligence Agency, Dr. Dotun Adetuberu and Special Assistant Governor’s Office ;Hon. Toyin Adetuase.
During the meeting, Gen. Ogundana (rtd.), representing Governor Oyebanji, expressed deep concern over the current situation and reiterated the governor’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He emphasized ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements in the State, underlining the administration’s reputation for maintaining peace.
Gen. Ogundana sympathized with the POS operators for the loss of their colleagues and underscored the economic significance of their role in society.
He assured them that the safety and security of all Ekiti citizens is a top priority for the Oyebanji-led administration and affirmed that these matters will be addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
The President of the Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria Mr. Oluwatoyin Ajiboye, speaking on behalf of the executives of the Association, acknowledged that attacks on their members are not unique to Ekiti State but are part of a national issue. He appreciated the governor’s dedication to the welfare of the people and expressed gratitude for the timely meeting, which they had eagerly anticipated.
Mr. Ajiboye explained that POS operators have long faced various challenges, including fraud through fake alerts and other deceptive practices.
He also highlighted incidents where individuals disguise themselves as POS operators to carry out criminal activities, prompting the association to implement member registration to enhance vigilance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, guidelines for commercial POS operations were established, and safety strategies along with security tips were formulated for the association.
