Ekiti Govt Clears 3,000 Hectares for Mechanised Farming, Youth Agribusiness

The Ekiti State Government has prepared 3,000 hectares of land to boost mechanised farming, advance agribusiness, and attract youth to agriculture.

State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, revealed this during a radio programme in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to agriculture as a catalyst for job creation and economic growth.

“The state government will continue to develop agribusiness and attract youths to farming, to create employment and empower the people in the state,” Olatunbosun said.

He highlighted that the state’s 2025 budget prioritizes the agricultural sector to facilitate these goals.

Caution Against Bush Burning

The commissioner also warned against indiscriminate bush burning, particularly during the dry season, noting the risks of fire outbreaks and property damage.

“This warning is crucial to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and property to fire,” he stated.

Security and Vigilance

Olatunbosun urged residents to remain vigilant during the festive season and report suspicious activities to authorities. He stressed that security is a collective responsibility and called on the public to protect public infrastructure from vandalism and theft.

“A lackadaisical attitude to happenings in neighbourhoods can negatively impact the environment. By staying vigilant, residents can help identify and prevent crime, ultimately curbing wrongdoing in society,” he added.

Commitment to Peace and Safety

Reaffirming Ekiti State’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country, the commissioner assured residents of the government’s dedication to enhancing security and ensuring the safety of all.

“Untoward acts such as bush burning, particularly during the dry season, must be avoided to prevent possible loss of lives and property to fire,” he reiterated.

Olatunbosun assured citizens that anyone caught engaging in illegal activities would face strict legal consequences.
