The Government of Ekiti State has approved the payment of 300 Million Naira as complete compensation on the proposed Urban Renewal project at Atikankan/Igbeyin area of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti News reports.
The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this in a statement after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Council Chamber, New Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024.
The approval encompasses compensation for 130 claimants for permanent structures and 21 for temporary constructions.
The project aligns with the urban renewal vision aimed at transforming Ado-Ekiti into a more economically viable state capital.
The affected area, Atikankan in Ado-Ekiti, located behind the Akodi-Sasere area, falls within the Central Business District (CBD) and has deteriorated into a complex urban shanty slum. This area currently faces significant urban challenges, including physical, social, and environmental issues, necessitating complete clearance as the preferred resolution for urban renewal.
The State Government had earlier set up a committee under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akin Oyebode on the valuation and compensation to be paid to the claimants following a reconnaissance survey of the area conducted by the Office of the Surveyor General and Bureau of Land Services.
Compensation will be disbursed directly to the claimants by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
