The re-election bid of Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on Wednesday received a major boost as 177 elected councillors across the state unanimously declared their support for his second term ambition.
The councillors, under the aegis of the Forum of Ekiti Councilors, converged at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti for a solidarity rally, where they praised the governor’s developmental strides and promised to mobilise massive grassroots support ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The motion for endorsement was moved by Hon. Arogundade Babatunde, Legislative Leader of Ado-Ekiti Local Government, and was supported by Hon. Ogunlana Segun from Ekiti West and Ido Osi Leader, Hon Jogunola Tolani (The Leading Leader).
According to the councillors, the governor has performed beyond expectations in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, community development, and inclusive governance.
“Our people at the grassroots are witnesses to the governor’s excellent performance,” said Hon. Arogundade. “His humility, accessibility, and commitment to good governance are reasons why we are standing solidly with him for a second term.”
Speaking during the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Inter-Party Affairs commended the councillors for their loyalty and called on them to intensify mobilisation in their respective wards.
“You are the closest to the people, and your voices matter,” he said. “As voter registration begins soon, ensure you mobilise your communities so that every eligible voter gets registered. The governor counts on your commitment.”
Former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oladapo Karounwi, also urged the councillors to take ownership of the re-election campaign at the grassroots level.
“You were elected just like the governor. You represent the people and must defend the mandate,” Karounwi said. “Let’s make the July 28 statewide endorsement rally a success and deliver 100 percent in the coming primary.”
Also present at the event were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Niyi Adebayo; Special Adviser on Political Matters, High Chief Jide Awe; and the Director-General of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho.
The endorsement rally is seen as a clear signal of strong grassroots support for Governor Oyebanji’s administration, ahead of the political activities that will shape the 2026 election in Ekiti State.
