The Alumni Association of Ekiti State University (EKSU) has purchased the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to contest for a second term in office under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Members of the association, under the platform of EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO, picked the forms on Monday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
Immediate past president of the alumni, Engr. Dipo Bamisaiye, said the group decided to fund the governor’s re-election bid in appreciation of his performance and commitment to the state.
He explained that the group raised N75 million for the purchase of the forms, noting that it was only the first phase of their fund-raising efforts.
“Our belief is that one of us is better than none of us. Governor Oyebanji has not disappointed us in his first term and we are confident he will do even better in his second term,” Bamisaiye said.
The alumni expressed pride in Oyebanji as a product of EKSU, describing him as a leader who has remained connected to his roots.
On the next steps, Bamisaiye, who also serves as Director General of the solidarity group, said members would continue to mobilise support across the state to ensure victory for the governor at both the primary and general elections.
Receiving the delegation, APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, commended the association for their gesture. He said the move came at the right time and described Oyebanji as a governor who had performed creditably to deserve a second term.
Prominent members of the delegation included former Global President of the alumni, Dr. Oludotun Adetunberu, current Vice President, Mrs. Hellen Folasade Olaofe Olusegun, Chief Jide Awe, Comrade Segun Dipe and Barrister Bayo Idowu.
