Ekiti News reports that Medical professionals from the department of Mental Health, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI), had on Tuesday dissected various ways of coping and solving problems associated with psychosocial disabilities; and charged participants on the importance of early detection and intervention in addressing depression.
The seminar which was geared towards providing valuable insights into the causes of depression and methods of managing the mental health condition effectively, was organized by the Hospital Education Committee.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adekunle Ajayi who declared the seminar opened, welcomed participants and lauded the efforts of the Committee for bringing up such an incisive topic at the front burner of public discourse at a time like this.
Dr Afolabi Jesutofunmi, Dr Paul Adekeye and Matron Adesola Temilade jointly explored the various factors that can contribute to depression such as: family history, societal pressure, loneliness, alcohol or substances abuse and delusion of guilt among others.
They further provided practical strategies for recognizing the signs of depression in oneself and others, effective communication techniques and coping mechanism for offering support and guidance.
Acknowledging the presence of the CMD and other Top Management Committee members present, the Chairman of the committee, Dr Awoyinka enjoined members of staff to always value the workshop as a platform for promoting health awareness.
