An Ekiti State High Court Sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for armed robbery and conspiracy, Ekiti News reports.

Those convicted are Akingbade David, Michael Mayowa, and Ibrahim Jimoh Mukaila.

They committed the offenses on March 1, 2019, on NTA Road in Ado-Ekiti, where they robbed one Gbenga Ajayi of his Toyota Corolla at gunpoint.

They were later arrested and charged with conspiracy and armed robbery, offenses contrary to Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

O.F. Ajumobi, an Assistant Chief Legal Officer, who prosecuted the case for the State called two witnesses and tendered 11 exhibits in support of the case.

The defendants, represented by Akin Abon, Iyanu Olumuagun, and Adeyinka Opaleke, testified in their own defense but called no additional witnesses.

In the court judgment on Wednesday, Justice John Adeyeye stated, “The prosecution proved all the elements of the offenses against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt.”

The Judge therefore convicted all the defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging for both of the offences.
