In a proactive effort to bolster the safety and security in Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti State, the Chairman of the Council, AMB. Prince Michael Ogungbemi, has partnered the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti Command, Mr. Akinwale Adeniran, on how to increase surveillance at Ekiti/Kwara border posts.
The partnership was sealed when Ogungbemi led a tem of Ajoni LCDA’s management to the Police headquarters in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday.
Speaking about the significance of the partnership, Ogungbemi, said it was aimed at aligning strategies to fostering a stronger synergy in the implementation of robust security measures across Ajoni communities and border towns.
Particularly, Ogungbemi wanted the occasional cases of banditry and kidnapping across Ekiti and Kwara border posts be checkmated, saying this can only be accomplished if the LCDA has a strong pact with the security agency.
Prince Ogungbemi commended the existing collaboration that has sustained relative peace in the region and appealed to the Commissioner to intensify efforts in combating crime and criminality.
He emphasized the need for continuous surveillance and synergy to protect lives and properties in Ajoni LCDA and its environs.
Justifying the need for the establishment of a Police Divisional Headquarters in Ajoni LCDA, the Chairman noted that one of the cardinal objectives of Ajoni LCDA Administration was to ensure peace and security of
lives and properties of the entire citizens and residents of Ajoni LCDA.
“More importantly, to protect the existing facilities, such as the only functional Bank in the whole of Ikole Local Government Area, WEMA BANK PLC, protection of the students and properties of Federal University of Oye Ekiti Annex at Ajoni LCDA, Federal Government College, Cassava Processing Industries, Ekiti State Agricultural Processing Zone at Iyemero Ekiti, Agbeyewa Farms at Ipao Ekiti, Agricultural settlement at Oke Ako-Ekiti, Gede farms settlement and other private industrial development in Ajoni LCDA.
“This visit marks another milestone in Ajoni LCDA’s proactive approach to governance and security, underscoring the administration’s dedication to creating a safe and conducive environment for its residents”, he said.
According to Ogungbemi, other areas of discussion during the visit revolved around the establishment of a Police Divisional Headquarters in Ajoni, deepening collaboration between the council and the Police Force to ensure sustained peace and security in the area. Most especially, considering the porosity of the Council’s border with both Kwara and kogi states respectively.
The Chairman stated, “Ajoni LCDA is the largest in population and landmass, with high concentration of immigrants farmers and settlers coupled with vast ungoverned area of coverage”.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, expressed appreciation for the council’s commitment to maintaining security and assured the Chairman of the Police Force unwavering support in the security drive of Ajoni LCDA.
Other high profile personalities in the LCDA’s delegation are: he Vice Chairman, Prince Tunde Famoroti, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Sola Alagbo and the Head of Local Authority, Mr. Tunde Arowolaju.
