The Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), a foremost pro-democracy and pro-governor support group, has applauded the people of Ekiti State for their maturity, resilience and unwavering support for the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
In a statement signed by its Convener, HC Ade, the group thanked residents for prioritising the collective interest of the State above the provocations of “a few hired stage crafters” who, it said, seek to castigate the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, over the deplorable condition of federal roads linking Ekiti.
OSV noted that Ekiti’s strategic location as a gateway for heavy and light trucks moving between the North and the West, coupled with the peace and security provided by the Oyebanji administration, has boosted commercial activities in the state.
The group stressed that while the State Government has recorded visible achievements in the construction and rehabilitation of internal road networks, critics often misdirect their grievances by blaming the administration for federal roads, which fall under the responsibility of the Federal Government.
Recounting Nigeria’s road development history, OSV observed that several highways were transferred to federal control in 1974 and are managed under the Federal Highways Act of 1971, which empowers the Minister of Works and Housing to plan, design, construct and maintain federal highways. It also highlighted the complementary role of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), established in 1988, in regulating highway use and safety.
While commending Governor Oyebanji for tackling road challenges within the State, OSV urged residents to remain steadfast, united and peaceful, stressing that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability.
“Ekiti can attract greater attention from the Federal Government if the people continue to support the administration of Governor Oyebanji. We congratulate the people for their maturity, resilience and cooperation in ensuring that development gains are sustained,” the statement added.
