The government of Ekiti State has directed the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), other relevant security organizations and the Amotekun Corps to immediately fish out the suspected kidnappers that attacked three traditional rulers, killing two of them in the state today.

Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, the State Commissioner for Information disclosed this in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Monday.

He explained that “at about two pm the Governor had a Security Council meeting and it was shortly after that news filtered in that three Kabiyesi had been attacked by suspected kidnappers and two killed.

“The two traditional rulers; the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin and the Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olushola were said to have been ambushed and killed by the gunmen while the Alara of Ara Ikole-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba escaped from the scene.

“Available information indicated that the monarchs were said to be returning from a security meeting in Irele-Ekiti in a vehicle being driven by Alara when they were attacked along the road.”

Appealing for calm, Olatunbosun assured that the State Government would leave no stone unturned to apprehend the perpetrators of the devilish act.
He reiterated the commitment of the present administration to the safety of lives and property of residents, assuring that Government would protect people in the State at all cost.

The Government’s spokesman however urged anybody with useful information that may lead to the arrest of the criminals or in any way assist in efforts to secure the State not to hesitate to forwards them to relevant security agencies, stressing the need for all and sundry to also be security conscious and report suspicious movements around them appropriately.

“An attack on one is an attack on all and this is one attack too many” he posited.

He expressed condolences to the families, members of the communities of the traditional rulers and the good people of the State in general, and prayed for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
