Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission has promoted 6,129 teaching and non teaching staff in public secondary schools in the just-concluded 2022/2023 promotion exercise in the State.
The Chairman of the Commission, Mrs Rhoda Ojo disclosed this at an interactive meeting with the principals of public secondary schools in Ado Ekiti.
Mrs Ojo who said that letters of promotion have been dispatched to the beneficiaries, disclosed that 5,669 of the newly promoted Staff are teachers while the remaining 460 are non teaching staff .
While expressing joy that the wrangling among some teachers groups which initially stalled the promotion of secondary school teachers in the State had been resolved,the TSC Boss urged the newly promoted Staff to receprocate Government’s gesture by being diligent and dedicated to their duties
She admonished principals to ensure full control of their schools stressing that Government would not tolerate hooliganism, violence and indiscipline in schools.
The Chairman who stated that the State Government would continue to reward outstanding principals and teachers noted that Government would however not hesitate to sanction teachers who demonstrate indolence and ineptitude in their places of work.
Mrs Ojo who reiterated that the position of registrar is alien to the Commission and in the Teachers Manual ,which is the grundnorm
for teaching staff in the State , stressed that conduct of examinations in secondary schools is the duty of principals and their vice principal (Academics).
Welcoming the participants to the meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission Mr Michael Boluwade charged the principals to discourage their teachers from seeking postings and transfers in the middle of sessions, stressing that this would have negative effect on the academic performance of the pupils.
He assured that the commission would continue to place high premium on the welfare of teaching and non teaching staff of secondary schools in Ekiti State for enhanced productivity and excellent performance of students.
In their goodwill messages, Commissioner 1 of the Commission, Elder Lawrence Falana and his counterpart Mrs Titilayo Falusi said that principals should bridge the information gap in the the school system as well as consider themselves as role models to both their teachers and students.
In his comments, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Teachers Affairs, Mr Fatai Oluyede who assured that the arrears of the year 2017 secondary teachers leave bonuses was already receiving the attention of Government called on them to support the government of Mr Biodun Oyebanji in its efforts at transforming the education sector.
In their remarks,the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) , Comrade Bamidele Daodu, his counterpart in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Sola Adigun and the Chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools ANCOPSS, Mr Akinbode Oke assured the leadership of the commission that their members would live up to expectations of government and guarantee academic excellence in public secondary schools in the state.
The union leaders called for training of their members in order for them to be equipped with modern day teaching and learning techniques.
