…. Brainstorm on how to help government generate more revenues, sign MoU with Consultant.
As part of the gifts of nature, anything you see above the soil, there are ten times of such below the ground. This has been the inspiration of the Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development Agency, under the leadership of the Board Chairman, Prince Ademola Adetola who in company of other Members, played host to the Board of Internal Revenue Services, on Thursday at the Agency’s office.
The collaboration was necessary for the development of the state and committing more to give a face-lift to the revenue generation of the agency that has been so unimpressive before the the new Board was appointed by the government of His Excellency, ‘Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
The Chairman, Board of Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development, Prince Ademola Adetola spoke extensively well and made the priorities of the Board known. He said the Agency was ready to be a mean of generating huge revenues into the coffers of the government rather than the shadow it has remained for a time being. He frowned at the unimpressive level he met the Agency.
The meeting which centered on how to commit more to the success of the Agency had in attendance all the Members of Board, Ekiti State Mineral Resources Agency, the Executive Secretary of the Agency and Board of Internal Revenue Services’ Members, ably led by the Executive Chairman, Mr. Olaniran Olatona.
Addressing the meeting, the Chairman of Board, Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development, Prince Ademola Ademola (Papa) said the main objective of the togetherness was aimed at increasing the State’s IGR tremendously.
According to him: “Ekiti is very rich in mineral resources and our aim is to raise the IGR of the Agency from 14million of its current low to over 50million naira starting this year.
“This synergy is necessary because this is a revenue generating agency that’s saddled with responsibility of converting our mineral resources potentials into wealth. We’ve decided to invite the Internal Revenue Services to this meeting so that they’ll understand and know where the monies are coming from. Imagine an agency that used to generate less than 1million naira per month now generating more than 5million naira, it would be a surprise and for the Revenue unit of government to be in tune with this developmental efforts, then we see the collaboration as being timely.
“We’re here to keep the Board of Internal Revenue informed of our collective efforts, progress, outstanding readiness because from few weeks to this time, the situation is expected to experience a rapid change. Mineral Resources discovery are endless; the further you go, the more you discover. Ekiti State is blessed with these gifts of nature and it’s our utmost duty to leverage on the potentials and help the government achieve more. The Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, ‘Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has been doing well. Infact, he’s performing beyond our expectations and it’s our joy to help the progress more.”, Prince Ademola Adetola stated.
However, the Ekiti State Mineral Resources Agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a new Consultant whose role will be to generate and collect revenues due on behalf of the Agency. The experience with the Consultant the Agency was working with in the past, was not too impressive and another Consultant has made a promise to hit the ground running immediately and bring a new toast to the Internal Revenue drive of the Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development Agency.
Whil speaking, the Chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue Services, Mr. Olaniran Olatona expressed satisfaction and happiness over the readiness of the Agency to switch to work without delay, saying the decision would help his agency to thrive more.
He promised to put necessary measures in place to make the job easier for the host Agency.
The Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development Agency, Mr. Osadare Emmanuel expressed vast determination and affirmed the Agency won’t remain a shadow of itself, emphasizing that the level it used to be hasn’t been encouraging and centered that on the prime reason for the collaboration with the Ekiti State Board of Internal Revenue Services.
“We invited the Members of Board, Ekiti State Internal Revenue Services to brainstorm over possible ways of increasing the revenue of the State, especially how the Mineral Resources Development Agency can achieve outright success with the collection of revenues from various sources belonging to the State and further said they’ve unanimously set up a team that would work on the realization of the numerous plans that have been put in place to ensure performance and unmitigated positive results.”
