The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and resilience through the adoption of digital extension approaches and climate advisory services.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, made this known on Friday at a training session for agricultural extension agents held at the Pastoral Centre, Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti.
The training, organized under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project, is a World Bank initiative aimed at equipping extension officers with modern digital tools to enhance livestock farming and climate adaptation strategies.
Advancing Sustainable Agriculture
Boluwade emphasized that the L-PRES project is strategically designed to boost productivity, enhance commercialization, and strengthen the resilience of livestock production systems in the state.
He highlighted the growing challenges posed by climate change, such as heatwaves, prolonged droughts, and frequent flooding, stressing the urgent need for sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.
Commitment to Innovation in Agriculture
The Commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to leveraging technology for improved extension services, digital monitoring of farms, and real-time climate advisory support.
He assured farmers that the government would continue to provide training and support to extension agents, ensuring they are well-equipped to guide farmers in adopting modern, climate-resilient farming techniques.
The initiative is expected to enhance food security, increase farmers’ income, and ensure the long-term sustainability of livestock farming in Ekiti State.
