The Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Cyril Fasuyi has addressed concerns raised by constituents over the recent selection of beneficiaries for his Free JAMB Scheme.
In a statement personally signed by the Senator, he assured the public that the process was transparent and fair, with priority given to candidates best positioned to benefit from the opportunity.
He explained that 420 applicants had expressed interest in the free UTME forms. However, some were disqualified because they were either not from Ekiti North or did not reside in the area, as indicated by their provided addresses.
Also, students still awaiting results were not considered, with preference given to those who had already completed their exams and received results from the first sitting.
Senator Fasuyi further highlighted lessons learned from the previous year’s initiative, where out of 350 beneficiaries, only 11 students successfully enrolled in higher institutions.
Many others, he said, struggled with poor academic performance or failed to meet JAMB’s requirements, raising concerns about the programme’s overall effectiveness.
In light of these challenges, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to educational development and urged parents to play an active role in guiding their children. He emphasised the importance of prioritising education as a pathway to a brighter future rather than engaging in activities with no long-term benefits.
“I deeply appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to provide more opportunities for our youth to succeed through education,” Senator Fasuyi stated.
He reassured constituents that their concerns and feedback remain valuable, promising to continue serving the community diligently in the pursuit of better educational opportunities.
