Ekiti News reports that the Ekiti State Government has initiated the demolition of over 50 deteriorated structures in public primary schools across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
Prof Femi Akinwumi, the Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, revealed this during an inspection of an old structure slated for demolition at St Andrew’s Primary School in Oke Ila, Ado Ekiti.
He mentioned that the building would be promptly demolished, and out of the 50 structures marked for demolition, 10 are scheduled to be pulled down within the next one week.
Highlighting that many of the structures marked for demolition were built during the colonial era, Akinwumi emphasized that these aged buildings, now posing safety threats to pupils and teachers due to structural and security concerns, would be replaced with newly constructed modern school buildings.
Prof. Akinwumi restated the commitment of the present administration in the state to the provision of qualitative Basic Education through the creation of a conducive environment for
teaching and learning in schools as well as the training and retraining of teachers in modern teaching methodologies.
He disclosed that the State government recently began another round of rehabilitation, renovation and reconstruction of infrastructure in public primary and Junior Secondary schools across the state.
