The government of Ekiti State has initiated the enforcement of the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing Law, 2016, Ekiti News reports.
The chairman of the Farmers/Herders Peace Committee in Ekiti State, Rtd. Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana, stated this during a function held on Wednesday.
He stressed that the state government would not hesitate to take action against any violators of the law. The objective, he emphasized, was to mitigate any threats to security and prevent extensive damage to farmlands in the state.
Ogundana emphasized that failure to address issues between farmers and herders could lead to a food crisis for citizens.
He called on herders to properly guide their cattle and peacefully coexist with crop farmers, warning that the destruction of crops, farmlands and valuable properties by herders will not be tolerated.
